Welcome; I’m glad you’ve found your way here.

I’m a qualified and professionally accredited counsellor with many years experience of working therapeutically with both individuals and couples.

You may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, worried, or low, or perhaps facing a life transition such as a relationship change or separation. You might sense that past experiences are affecting how you feel now, or as a couple, you want to improve communication and explore the dynamics of your relationship.

Whether you’re seeking support for yourself or with your partner, I provide a warm, welcoming, non-judgemental and confidential space in which to pause, reflect and explore your experiences.

I offer individual counselling appointments, which are 50 minutes in length and charged at £65, and couple counselling appointments, which are 50 minutes in length and charged at £85. These appointments are offered online or at my centrally located consulting rooms in Bristol.

To book an appointment, please email hannah@hannahrussellcounselling.co.uk, send me a message through my contact form, or call 07883 082046.

How I work

As a human being, you are unique, and I will meet you in that place.

At the heart of my practice is a relational approach. Put simply, I believe the therapeutic relationship itself can be a powerful tool for healing and growth.

As a qualified and experienced counsellor, I take an integrative approach, drawing on a range of theories, tools, and techniques to support you in exploring what matters most to you. I bring warmth, gentle challenge, reflection, and, at times, humour to our work together — creating space for openness, curiosity, and a deeper understanding. I see you as the expert on yourself, and I aim to support you in your self-awareness, autonomy and choice.

As well as having a specialist interest in relationships and family dynamics, I am also experienced in working with issues such as anxiety, worry, depression, low mood, self-esteem and confidence.

I work with people from a broad and diverse range of backgrounds, including the LGBTQ+ community, and my therapeutic approach is neurodiversity-affirming. I have experience supporting clients who have, or identify with traits associated with, Autism and ADHD / ADD.

Training, experience and qualifications

Throughout my thirty-year career, I’ve been committed to improving outcomes for individuals, families and children through a range of roles across the NHS, voluntary sector, local authorities, and schools — with a particular focus on relationships, mental health, and wellbeing.

My interest in counselling began while I was studying psychology as an undergraduate and led to training with the Bristol-based charity Womankind, where I worked on their helpline. In 2008, I trained and began working with Relate, the relationship charity, counselling both individuals and couples.

Having lived in Bristol for three decades, I now work solely in private practice here. In addition to the following qualifications, I engage in continuing professional development opportunities to enhance and support my practice.

  • University Advanced Diploma in Couple Counselling (Level 6) – Relate Institute via University of Hull; working with both individuals and couples.
  • Certificate in Supervision Studies – Canterbury Christ Church University
  • Undergraduate Child Development and Social Psychology modules – The Open University
  • PGDip. Women’s Studies – University of the West of England, Bristol
  • BA (Hons.) Interdisciplinary Human Studies – University of Bradford

I am an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and adhere to their code of ethics; my membership number is NCS21-01464.
